African Plant Bleeding Academy II Session II
World Agroforestry (ICRAF) is a centre of science and development excellence that harnesses the benefits of trees for people and the environment. Leveraging the world’s largest repository of agroforestry science and information, we develop knowledge practices, from farmers’ fields to the global sphere, to ensure food security and environmental sustainability.ICRAF is the only institution that does globally significant agroforestry research in and for all of the developing tropics. Knowledge produced by ICRAF enables governments, development agencies and farmers to utilize the power of trees to make farming and livelihoods more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable at scales.
Interns are students who are pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in local or foreign universities, or have just completed their studies but are not yet working towards their Master’s degree. In addition, one or more ICRAF supervisors consider them well qualified to contribute to their programmatic activities. Prospective interns can have qualifications in any field relevant to the programme or project to which they are attached. ICRAF may provide a modest compensation, local transport and cover necessary insurance costs. These will vary from office to office. Interns can also self-fund their internship as volunteers. The expected final product of their internship at ICRAF is a report describing their activities and the learning achieved.World Agroforestry develops capacities of the youth by providing opportunities to selected interns to work with the Centre's senior scientists. Internships last for a duration stipulated in the Letter of Agreement signed by relevant staff and external supervisors, where applicable. CDU manages the entire deployment and discharge process at ICRAF. Interested applicants must enroll online.

World Agroforestry offers several avenues for individuals to get involved in its research and development programmes. Women are given preference over equally qualified men in all such opportunities.
It is strongly recommended that interested applicants visit the Centre’s website, and familiarize themselves with its research and development programmes, and the Corporate Strategy 2017-2026 to ensure that any proposed/planned research work by prospective fellows is relevant to the Centre.
World Agroforestry frequently engages students working towards their postgraduate degrees (MSc/MPhil/PhD) as Research Fellows. These fellowships are useful for the advancement of ICRAF’s research for sustainable development. Research Fellows are students enrolled for master’s or doctoral degrees. The purpose of their fellowship is to carry out field or laboratory research that is part of their dissertation or thesis. Duration of engagement depends on the length of the research phase. Research Fellows can opt for full or partial self-financing. ICRAF may provide a modest fellowship, with transport from/to origin, local transport or a monthly transportation allowance, and all required insurances. The final product of their fellowship is a defended thesis or dissertation at their academic institution, with due credit to ICRAF for co-supervision. Fellows are required to deliver at least one seminar on their research.Interested applicants must enroll online using this link: Apply as a Research Fellow with ICRAF
Volunteers are young people who want to work without any compensation to gain knowledge and experience. In addition, one or more ICRAF supervisors should consider them well qualified to contribute to their programmatic activities. Volunteers can be deployed for a duration of 2 weeks to 3 months. All necessary costs (initial and daily travel to and from ICRAF offices, insurance, subsistence and accommodation) will be borne by the individual. Volunteers can also work remotely, depending on the agreement with the supervisor and the requirements of the assignment. Volunteer agreements can be renewed once for a maximum duration of 3 months. The expected final output is an attachment report describing activities performed and learning achieved by the individual.Apply as an Intern or Research Fellow volunteer with ICRAF
World Agroforestry engages interested MSc and PhD degree holders as Research Associates. These are individuals who already hold masters or PhD degrees and are interested in contributing to ICRAF’s work as junior professionals for short durations of 2 weeks to 3 months to stay engaged and gain experience while looking for professional jobs. They are provided a modest monthly scholarship depending on the nature of assignment, quality of work needed and the resources available. They take care of their subsistence, insurances and travel costs. ICRAF may bear the cost of obtaining work/research permits at the location of placement, if required, and reimburse flights to and from the origin to the duty station.
